HGTV Smart Home 2019 - Lighting

You guys!! We have HUGE news. Really huge news. We made it on TV. Like the real deal TV too. Well, actually Uncommon Lighting made it on.

We’re sure you’ve seen the promos for the 2019 HGTV Smart Home. Anything familiar you see in any of the rooms? We sure hope so!

First, a back story.

Back in the spring of 2018, we received a call from HGTV asking if we’d be interested in filming a small segment for a show. A designer would come and look around to see if anything would interest her client. Of course, yes was the answer! We weren’t for sure who it could be. There was a TON of speculation going on.

So, with nervous anticipation, in July 2018 we were pleasantly surprised when HGTV designer Tiffany Brooks walked in. She is the designer for the HGTV Smart Home that was built in Roanoke, TX. She came into Uncommon Lighting to look around and see if she spotted anything she could use in the design. Laura, co-owner, head designer, drawer, creator, (basically everything) walked around with her to see if anything caught her eye.

Tiffany fell in love with the store. We can customize just about anything, so the sky is the limit. Two of our antique fixtures caught her eye, and she knew she found her inspiration. Working with her over the next few months we came up with the perfect light fixture for the home's great room.

Here's how we did it.

We started with creating a templet from a gothic alter piece. Tiffany loved the gothic elements from this piece, so we decided to take a part of the detail and use it to create a custom piece.

We then discussed shape and size and came up with this.

Next on the agenda was color. We can paint it basically any color. For this particular light fixture, Tiffany chose a base color of Texture Black Brown with Antique Gold as an accent color.

Once all of the details were hammered out, Scott, co-owner, creator, and craftsman, went to work on how it was going to all be put together.

Here's a small sneak peek of Scott hammering one of the arms that will be on the exterior of the chandelier.  This arm will hold one of the light sockets.

And, I know we're biased, but this turned out SO GOOD!  It looks incredible in the space and really sets the tone for how the design of the home is to be.  Once you walk into the home, you can see the chandelier from the front door, and you just know that this space is going to be incredible!

Beautiful, right?!
Tell us what you think.  We'd love to hear it.  If you find this is something that you would like in your own home we can make that happen.  We can customize it to any size, shape, and color you'd like.  Also, make sure to stay tuned for our next blog post where we'll talk about the master bedroom sconces we created for the home as well. Hope you have a great week, friends!

P.S. You can watch the HGTV Smart Home 2019 on HGTV.  Check your local listings.  Make sure to watch the first episode.  We're on TV!

  • Hi, Joel. We’re so glad you love the light fixture. We can make it smaller to fit your space. It takes us anywhere from 10-12 weeks to finish the fixture. The estimated price is $3600 with UL certification and resin candle sleeves an extra fee. Let me know if we can help you with anything else!

  • Hello, I am in love with this light fixture! How would the process work and how much would it cost? My space is smaller but this style is perfection!
