Our Company History

We're proud to announce Uncommon Lighting has acquired Uncommon Market! Scott and Laura Mayborn will carry on the tradition Don and Ward started. They've brought in Laura's sister, Susan Healey, to manage Uncommon Market. Susan worked for UCM for over a decade in the past and recently returned to the DFW Metro with her husband Mike. Susan's prior experience with Uncommon Market and Uncommon Lighting will assure a smooth transition during the acquisition.

Ward and Don Mayborn, brothers who grew up in the Bluffview area of Dallas, started selling antiques out the bottom floor of an old house at 2701 Fairmount. The original store was located in the area that eventually became Uptown Dallas. They started the store by taking turns traveling to England to stock the store with shop interiors, signs and British collectibles. The people from whom they purchased in England quickly became friends – and are friends to this day.
